Jackson is currently working on an £8.5m project on behalf of Connect Plus to carry out essential maintenance and upgrade 7000m2 of fire protection on Dartford’s east Tunnel.
This scheme involves upgrading the passive fire protection in the cut and cover, working pit and cast iron sections. The team will also replace drainage channels in the composite section of the tunnel throughout the extent of the eastern tunnel.
This project will improve protection in the tunnel structure in case of a serious vehicle fire and reduce ongoing maintenance requirements – this essential work will have a huge benefit to the travelling public as it will reduce tunnel closures in the future, thus minimising disruption.
Site Engineer, Luke Woodward said: “We are around three quarters of the way through completing this project. Dartford tunnel can sometimes be a challenge with the working space, but it is managed very effectively by the team.”
