Jackson’s parent company One Group Construction attended the Suffolk Show in May to encourage young people to choose construction as a career. In association with Easton Otley College and Suffolk Connect Business & Education, the ‘One Group Academy’ stand included interactive exhibits, allowing visitors to get involved with various construction activities.
The stand also offered opportunity for visitors to speak to careers experts and construction professionals, to find out about the wide range of career paths the construction industry has to offer. In addition to providing advice for young people, parents were also able to gain valuable information about careers, to help their sons or daughters make informed choices about joining the industry. Exhibits included the chance to operate a digger, scan for buried services, and catch a birds-eye view of the showground from a specialist telehandler.
The construction industry employs 2.5 million people across the UK and needs over 45,000 new starters each year just to keep ticking over. As a large local employer, One Group Construction is keen to raise awareness of the wide variety of careers available in construction, and encourage young people to consider it as a career.
One Group Construction Chief Executive Richard Neall said: “The construction sector presents a fantastic career opportunity for young people, and we’re keen to do our bit to address the skills shortage facing our industry. With construction output set to rise dramatically over the coming years, we also need to build a strong workforce for the future. Young people are a vital part of that plan.”
